Critter Cams

Critter Cams 1986: Critter Cams are underwater cameras that are attached to marine animals. With images given from the Critter Cams the researchers and scientist and able to observe anfd record behaviors of marine animals underwater. With this invention they are able to understand the Hydrosphere much more.

UUV(Unmanned Underwater Vehicles)

UUV Late 1980's: An UUV was deployed such as the irobot seaglider to gather information about how much oil was spilled in the gulf. With this device researchers were able to fix problems in the Hydrosphere. They were still able to continue their study of the mysterious Hydrosphere. With this new information from new machinery invented, scientist are able to conduct new experiments and continue their learning of the Hydrosphere.

Deep Sea Drilling Project

Deep Sea Drilling Project 1963:The Deep Sea Drilling Project is a worldwide investigation of the seafloors that was initiated by the National Science Foundation. Using technologydeveloped by the petroleum industry, DSDP ships drilled and recovered extensive core sections. By using this technology, it has been a benefit to the science world. It had impacted the science world by finding valuable information from the past. It has helped us discover more of the Hydrosphere. Also, with the findings from DSDP, scientist have uncovered information about the ancient climates on Earth, oceanic current patterns, and the variations in volcanic activity from the past.

Gravity Corers(Inset)

Gravity Corers(Inset) 1960:Gravity Corers collect samples of seafloor sediments. Data from core samples provide information about the Earth's recent geologic history. This invention has had a great impact on the science world. The cores have been able to give scientist valuable information on the Earth's climatic history. Also, it is the quickest and easiest method of sampling the seafloor.

Underwater Camera

Underwater Camera 1957 or late 1800's: Underwater Camera's are used mainly by scuba divers to take pictures underwater. With these images scientist and researchers are able to add on to their investigation of the Hydrosphere.

Satellites

Satellites 1957: Satellites gather information mainly about the ocean surface over large areas. With information gathered by satellites scientist are given much knowledge. They are able to do more research with the data they have recieved from satellites.

Buoys

Buoys 1906: Buoys measure both the characteristics of the water and the currents at a particular location. This invention has helped with further discoveries in the Hydrosphere. buoys have helped scientist with their research and studies of the Hydrosphere.
